Former Cosmos forward Jairo Arrieta came off the bench to score the equalizer for Herediano, but it wasn’t enough to boost the team over Tigres in the CONCACAF Champions League Tuesday night.
Arrieta, who played for the North American Soccer League side in 2016, tallied in the 78th minute of the Costa Rican team’s 3-1 loss to Tigres in the second leg of the Round of 16 series.
The Mexican club qualified for the quarterfinals behind a 5-3 aggregate win.
Arrieta had scored a dramatic stoppage time goal for Herediano in a 2-2 draw in the first leg last week.
Enner Valencia struck twice for the winners in the 49th and 79th minutes.
After Arrieta scored in the 78th minute, Valencia found the net a minute later. Ismael Sosa added an insurance goal later on.
