NEW YORK – Former Columbia University defender Rhys Williams has signed with the Real Monarchs of the United Soccer League.

Real is affiliated with Real Salt Lake and plays its home games at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, Utah. The USL season begins in a home match against Tulsa Roughnecks FC March 24.

“It feels amazing to sign with the Real Monarchs and join the Real Salt Lake organization,” Williams said. It’s another step forward in my career and I look forward to improving every day with this club. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and thankful for everyone who helped me get to this point.”

Williams scored three goals and added four assists a season ago while playing for New York Cosmos B of the National Premier Soccer League. He tallied seven goals and five assists in 49 matches during his Columbia career. Williams was a part of the Ivy League Championship team at Columbia in 2016, and was a second team All-Ivy honoree his sophomore season.
