Former Red Bulls super-sub Gonzalo Veron is back home.
He has signed with Argentine club Independiente in his hometown of Buenos Aires.
After the Red Bulls declined the midfielder-forward’s option after the 2017 Major League Soccer season, Veron was selected by D.C. United in the Re-Entry Draft.
The 28-year-old Veron, however, decided to return to his native country.
The Red Buls signed Veron as a Designated Player midway through the 2015 season. He did not live up to the expectations as a DP, scoring only 10 goals and adding four assists in 13 starts over 60 matches through last season.
As it turned out, 2017 was Veron’s best season with the Red Bulls, coming off the bench on several occasions to spark the team. He finished with an impressive six goals and three assists in 24 matches totalling 777 minutes. But that production was not enough to save Veron’s spot on the team.
