The Hauppauge Hurricanes are holding a fundraiser to help with their airfare costs to Dallas for the IberCup USA at Governor’s Comedy Club @ McGuires in Bohemia, N.Y. Thursday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m.
On Nov. 25, the Hurricanes earned a berth in the competition by becoming the top Boys Under-14 side in the Long Island Junior Soccer League in a special tournament among four teams. The Hurricanes also are defending Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association State Cup champions at the U-14 level.
“We selected the LIJSL because of the overall competitiveness of the league, especially at the Pre-Academy level,” IberCup USA representative Jim Vogt said.
The IberCup USA tournament will be played from March 28 to April 1. Through this unique partnership agreement, the LIJSL IberCup champion receives an automatic invitation, and paid acceptance, with the team’s hotel, meals and ground transportation costs paid for by the tournament. The value of the package is estimated to be more than $10,000.
Now the team is taking the next step to secure airfare.
“We will be having a 50/50 and raffles for gift baskets and would love to have more donations of gift baskets and to bring the attendance up for this event by selling more tickets at $25 per admission,” Hauppauge team parent Krisztina Abbate said. “We can fill up to 80 more seats. However, they are not payable at the door and must be paid for in advance.”
