Former Cosmos midfielder Javi Marquez has resurfaced in Catalonia in his native Spain.

He has signed with Club Gimnàstic de Tarragona of the Spanish Segunda Division.

“Very excited to start a new challenge with the @NASTICTARRAGONA,” Marquez said on Twitter Friday. “Many thanks to all the tokens of affection.”

Marquez, 31, scored six goals and assists on three others with the Cosmos last year in the North American Soccer League. He started 25 games and played in 27 over 2,165 minutes as New York reached the league final.

In Spain, Marquez has played for Espanyol, Mallorca, Eiche and Granada.

The 5-8, 159-lb. Marquez became the seventh former Cosmos to find a new team since the end of the 2017 NASL season.

In December, three players joined new clubs.

Goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer hooked up with FC Dallas (Major League Soccer) while defender David Diosa signed with the Real Monarchs (Untied Soccer League) and midfielder Irving Herrera returned to his native El Salvador to play with FAS.

Argentine forward Pablo Vranjicán joined Alianza Petrolera F.C. (Colombia) and midfielder Emmanuel Ledesma has signed with FC Cincinnati (USL).

Earlier Friday, it was announced that defender David Ochieng has joined IF Brommapojkarna of the Swedish First Division.

Head coach Giovanni Savarese has signed on to guide the Portland Timbers (Major League Soccer).
