St. John’s University senior defender Jesse Schaefer was named honorable mention on the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I women’s team.
Schaefer, an All-Big East second team and CoSIDA Academic All-District selection this season, was a four-year starter for head coach Ian Stone and earned her first career Big East defensive player of the week honor this year after leading the Red Storm to a 1-0 win over Seton Hall. The Dublin, Ohio, native who missed only one game in her four years, was one of the integral parts of a defensive unit that limited opponents to one goal or less in 15 of the team’s 18 games this season.
Schaefer finished her career with the second-most games started in St. John’s women’s soccer history with 77.
In the classroom, Schaefer posted a 3.88 GPA as a finance major and Spanish minor and was inducted into the 2017 St. John’s University President’s Society, one of the most prestigious honors a student can earn.
