PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Rochester River Dogz FC made some history Sunday afternoon.

The River Dogz became the first open division amateur team from Western New York to qualify for the Lamar Hunt/U.S. Open Cup in the modern era (1995 onwards).

Rochester registered a 2-1 victory over Stegman’s FC (Minn.) in its third-round qualifying game at Pittsford Thornell Farm Park Turf Field to book a berth in the tournament next spring.

Stefanos Stamoulacatos scored for Rochester in the first half, which ended in a 1-1 tie before Austin Gerber tallied the game winner early in the second half.
