LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The top-seeded Monmouth University women captured the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship with a 5-1 win over No. 2 Manhattan at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex Wednesday afternoon.

Five players scored as the Hawks (15-3-2) repeated as MAAC regular season and tournament champions for the second consecutive year. Monmouth also earned the MAAC automatic bid to the NCAA Division I tournament and will make its fifth appearance in program history. Manhattan fell to 10-7-3.

“An amazing performance today. We played great soccer, scored good goals and were just fantastic all around,” Monmouth Krissy Turner said. “I am super proud of the sacrifice and commitment this team displayed all season.”

The Hawks scored the lone goal in the first half on a shot by Alli DeLuca that was just inside the far post in the 38th minute. The halftime advantage gave Monmouth the momentum following a dominant first half that saw the Hawks outshoot Manhattan 11-2.

It was all Monmouth from there, as it scored the next four goals to put the game out of reach. Rachelle Ross, Jazlyn Moya, Jessica Johnson and Madie Gibson provided the goals. Manhattan added a late goal.

The Hawks will find out their NCAA Tournament fate Monday at 4:30 p.m. during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show, which will air live on NCAA.com.
