QUEENS, N.Y. – After leading the St. John’s men’s soccer team to a 2-0 week and helping the Red Storm clinch a berth in the Big East Championship, David Enstrom was named the conference’s defensive player of the week Monday.
Enstrom was awarded defensive player of the week honors for the second time this season after leading the Red Storm backline in two dominant performances. The Johnnies surrendered only one goal in more than 200 minutes of action last week, allowing only a Villanova penalty kick in the third minute Wednesday night.
In their victory over No. 10 Georgetown Saturday, the Johnnies allowed just two of the Hoyas’ shots to find the net, both of which came off free kicks in the offensive third and were saved by Andrew Withers.
St. John’s has registered seven clean sheets and ranks 15th in Division I with a 0.66 team goals against average.
The Red Storm will play one more regular season game at Providence College Wednesday night, as the Johnnies will look to clinch the two seed in the upcoming Big East Championship. The game will be broadcast live on the Big East Digital Network.
