NEW YORK — Baruch College suffered a 1-0 City University of New York Athletic Conference quarterfinal elimination loss to the College of Staten Island at Randall’s Island Field #10 Wednesday night.

The match was a defensive affair until the visiting Dolphins broke through in the 78th minute with a goal from Joe Bolella from 25 yards that hit the cross bar and dropped inside for the lone goal.

The Bearcats attempted five shots compared to 15 by the Dolphins.

The Dolphins twice had 1 v 1 scoring opportunities against goalkeeper Victor Torres, but he came off his line both times to make two heroic saves to keep the match scoreless until the late goal by Bolella.

“I was a great match this evening by both teams, but Staten island pulled out the win,” Baruch head coach Ranford Champagnie said. “I am very proud of how much our team played hard right up until the last second.”

The Dolphins advanced to the semifinal take on top-seed Lehman College in the Bronx Saturday at noon.
