HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – After Charleston knotted the score at one in the 84th minute, sophomore Rachel Cardinal scored with under a minute left to give the Hofstra University Women a dramatic 2-1 win over the College of Charleston Sunday afternoon at the Soccer Stadium at Patriots Point.
Hofstra finished at 9-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association.
The Pride (13-3-2, 9-0) extended its win streak to 10 games and its unbeaten run to 12. Charleston dropped to 8-8-1 overall and 3-5-1 in conference play.
Hofstra’s corner kicks continued to be dangerous, as freshman Bella Richards opened the scoring in the 24th minute, putting away a rebound off a Monique Iannella corner for Richards’ third goal of the season and second straight game with a goal.
The Cougars found the equalizer on a corner as well, putting the Pride under the gun with just over five minutes to play. But Hofstra answered back with senior Kristin Desmond breaking up a clear and Cardinal firing into the back of the net.
Hofstra has a bye week while the CAA quarterfinals are underway as the Pride will host the CAA semifinals at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Nov. 3.
