QUEENS, N.Y. – After helping the St. John’s University women to a 1-0 home win over Seton Hall University Saturday, senior Jesse Schaefer was named the Big East defensive player of the week Monday.
Schaefer earned her first career Big East weekly honor after anchoring the Red Storm’s back line in its fourth shutout of the season.
Through 15 games, the St. John’s defense has held its opponents to one goal or less 12 times. Schaefer was an integral part in a defensive unit that allowed just five total shots and one shot on goal in 90 minutes Saturday.
St. John’s takes on Villanova University Thursday at 4 p.m.
