BROOKLINE, Mass. – Freshman Lucy Porter scored in the 71st minute to lift the Hofstra University women to a 1-0 win over defending Colonial Athletic Association champion Northeastern University at Parsons Field Thursday night.

The Pride (11-3-2, 7-0) extended its winning streak to eight games and its unbeaten run to 10. Northeastern came into the contest undefeated in conference play and dropped to 3-1-2 in the league and 9-5-2 overall.

The clean sheet was Hofstra’s ninth shutout of the season, with the Pride allowing two goals over its 10-game unbeaten streak.

After weathering pressure from the Huskies in the waning moments of the first half, Hofstra turned the tables in the second, carrying play for most of the frame and capitalizing on the momentum swing in the 71st minute.

Junior Monique Iannella sent in a corner that classmate Jenn Buoncore played deeper into the box. Porter settled it along the goal line and snuck it around goalkeeper Nathalie Nidetch for her second goal of the season.

Freshman Sabrina Bryan had an opportunity to double the Pride’s lead late in the second half, cutting around a defender at the edge of the box and trying to sneak a shot past Nidetch short side, but Nidetch batted it away.

With two games remaining in the regular season, Hofstra will play its final home game, hosting Elon College at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Sunday at 12:30 p.m. The Pride will honor its eight seniors in a pregame ceremony.
