RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Monmouth University were defeated in extratime by Manhattan College in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match Saturday night, 1-0.

Manhattan improved to 7-4-0, 4-0-0, while Monmouth fell to 4-6-1, 1-2-0.

After neither team scored a goal for the opening 104 minutes, Manhattan’s Ryan Shields collected the pass from Callum Carsley and finished for the game-winner.

“Tonight’s loss was a heartbreaker,” Monmouth head coach Robert McCourt said. “It was a fantastic match with both teams leaving everything they had on the field. Credit to Manhattan for getting the win. Our guys played some great soccer tonight. We will continue to build and learn from these games.”

Monmouth goalkeeper Bobby Edwards made four saves.
