CHICAGO – Christine Sinclair and Portland Thorns FC ready themselves for their first playoff meeting against former teammate Alex Morgan and the Orlando Pride as the two sides get set to square off in the semifinals of the National Women’s Soccer League playoffs at Providence Park in Portland, Ore. Saturday at 3:30 p.m. (Lifetime).
The Thorns have never lost to Orlando, with a 3-0-1 all-time record against their visitors. The lone draw in those four matches came in the most recent meeting between the sides as Portland and the Pride fought to scoreless draw in Orlando Sept. 23.
Head coach Mark Parsons and his side got the better of Tom Sermanni and his players in the only other match between the clubs in 2017 – a 2-0 home victory April 15 for the Thorns as Sinclair and Nadia Nadim both scored for Portland in the first game of the season.
The winner Saturday will move on to face the winner of Sunday’s semifinal between the North Carolina Courage and Chicago Red Stars in the final Saturday, Oct. 14 at 4:30 p.m. ET at Orlando City Stadium in Orlando, Fla.
Two New York natives are on the Portland roster, including defender Emily Menges and midfielder Allie Long, a member of the U.S. national team. Jasmyne Spencer, another Long Island native, plays for Chicago.
