INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The St. John’s University men fell to No. 22 Butler University in a physical, 1-0 extratime Big East game Saturday night.

Lewis Suddick scored on a penalty kick in the 105th minute to give the Bulldogs (7-2, 3-0) the win and handed the Red Storm (5-4-1, 2-1) its first loss in conference action.

Just moments before the goal, the Johnnies won a corner kick where Harry Cooksley sent a ball into the box for Wilhelm Nilsson but the chance was turned aside by goalkeeper Eric Dick.

Dick turned the ball forward for a counterattack as Brandon Guhl found himself in the clear for the Bulldogs, but his shot was stopped by a sprawling Andrew Withers. However, the rebound opportunity created chaos in the St. John’s box and a foul was called to give Butler the penalty kick chance. Suddick chipped the ball over Withers for the goal.

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Andrew Withers made six saves in the loss as St. John’s backline conceded one goal or less.

St. John’s continues its four-game road swing, battling Creighton Universityy at 8 p.m. ET Oct. 6.
