STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Wagner College women open up Northeast Conference play against LIU Brooklyn at Hameline Field Sunday at 1 p.m.
Heading into the conference schedule, the Seahawks have the third best winning percentage across the NEC. Wagner is one of three teams to win three road matches, joining Bryant and Mount St. Mary’s. With every team having at least nine games under its belt, eight of the nine squads sit between two and four wins on the season, which promises a tight conference race.
Last Time vs. the Blackbirds: Backed by two goals apiece from senior captains Sydney McNutt and Megan Fritz, Wagner earned a 5-3 victory Sept. 30, 2016.
The Seahawks have won four consecutive games over the Blackbirds, including successive shutout victories in 2013 and 2014. The last home loss to LIU Brooklyn came in 2012, while the Green and White has outscored LIU 9-4 in the last four years.
Wagner freshman Le’la Allen scored her first collegiate goal in last week’s game against Hartford. Allen scored 70 minutes into the game off a feed from junior Sandra Battista, depositing the ball into the net from close range in a sequence that was triggered by a long throw-in from sophomore Kaela Schrier.
Allen is one of four first-year Seahawks to record a goal this season, joining freshmen Samantha LaValle and Taylor Wasserman as well as sophomore transfer Delaney Beck.
The Seahawks will take the road for their first road conference matchup, visiting Fairleigh Dickinson Friday, Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
