HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Hofstra University women extended their unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-0 victory over Colonial Athletic Association opponent Drexel University at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Thursday night.
The Pride (7-3-2, 3-0-0) has won four straight and has allowed just one goal in its past six games. Drexel (6-5-1, 1-1-1) had a four-game unbeaten streak snapped.
Hofstra has six shutouts on the season and a goals-against average of 0.79.
Senior Kristin Desmond scored her league-leading seventh goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 38th minute to give Hofstra the lead, placing the shot into the lower left side. Desmond is 3-3 on penalty kicks this season and has scored from the penalty spot in back-to-back games.
The Pride carried play the rest of the way, outshooting the Dragons, 11-4, in the second half before junior Jenn Buoncore added an insurance goal in the 87th minute. Desmond played the ball into freshman Lucy Shepherd, whose shot floated out into the box after a miscommunication by the Drexel defense and Buoncore tapped it in.
Hofstra heads to William & Mary College Sunday for a 2 p.m. CAA contest.
