NEW YORK — Baruch College held off the College of Staten Island, 4-3, in a thrilling City University of New York Athletic Conference battle on Randall’s Island Wednesday night.

The Bearcats (4-0) take over sole possession of first place in the CUNYAC, while the Dolphins dropped to 3-1 in the conference and 8-2 overall

Jacob Gorodetsky started the high-scoring affair with a penalty kick goal in the fourth minute.The Bearcats struck again in the 22nd minute on a goal by John Favara and added their third a few minutes before the halftime whistle on a goal by Dortion Alipaj for a 3-0 halftime lead.

The Dolphins did not go quietly, scoring twice in a five-minute span of the second half to get as close as 3-2 in the 55th minute.

Baruch scored an insurance in the 83rd minute as Jaime Zurro beat a defender to poke in the goal.

The Dolphins scored two minutes later to move within a goal again.

The Bearcats will continue their conference schedule taking on defending CUNYAC champion Lehman College (3-0) at Randall’s Island Field #70 Saturday at 10 a.m.
