HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Freshman Matthew Vowinkel scored his first career goal in the 76th minute to equalize as the Hofstra University men played Northeastern University to a 1-1 draw in Colonial Athletic Association action at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Wednesday night.
The Pride (1-3-5, 0-0-3) has played to ties in five of its past six games, including three straight to open conference play. Northeastern (2-5-2, 1-1-1) also has seen five of its contests go to extratime.
Hofstra led in corner kicks, 11-5.
Harry Swartz opened the scoring in the 22nd minute on a pinball play in the Hofstra box. Facing a 1-0 deficit in the second half, the Hofstra offense pressed, firing 11 shots in the second frame, including five in a one-minute span midway through.
Vowinkel finally broke through, one-touching in a cross from senior Danny Elliott.
The Pride piled on seven more shots across the two overtime periods, including one from Elliott in the final minute that curled just wide.
Pride goalkeeper Alex Ashton made five saves.
