NEWARK, Del. – The Hofstra University women recorded their fourth consecutive shutout as they began Colonial Athletic Association play with a 2-0 win over the University of Delaware at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium Thursday night.
The Pride (5-3-2, 1-0), which is 10-2 in CAA opener since head coach Simon Riddiough took the helm, has registered four successive clean sheets for the first time since 2010.
Hofstra is 5-1-1 in its past seven matches.
Senior Rhian Cleverly tallied her first career goal to get the Pride on the board, bending a free kick home in the 40th minute.
Junior Jenn Buoncore doubled the Pride’s advantage in the 63rd minute, capitalizing on a turnover in the box for her goal this season.
Delaware (3-5-2, 0-1) matched Hofstra, with each side mustering eight shots and four on goal.
Pride goalkeepers Jenna Borresen and Ashley Wilson combined for the shutout, each playing a half and making two saves.
Hofstra returns home to square off with UNCW at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Sunday at 1 p.m.
