CINCINNATI – Red Bulls II saw their six-game unbeaten streak snapped as FC Cincinnati recorded a 4-2 United Soccer League win at Nippert Stadium Saturday night.
FC Cincinnati (10-9-9, 39 points) jumped over NYRBII (11-12-5, 38 points) into seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
New York outpossessed the home side, 65-35 percent, as well as outshooting Cincinnati, 18-9.
Cincinnati opened the scoring in the ninth minute with Austin Berry tucking a header past a diving goalkeeper Rafael Diaz off a set piece. Berry tallied the second goal of the U.S. Open Cup semifinal match at Nippert last month against New York’s first team in a 3-2 loss.
NYRB II responded in the 19th minute as Florian Valot one-timed a set piece ball from Vincent Bezecourt to equalize. The goal was Florian’s fourth of the season and Bezecourt’s ninth assist of the season, putting him back into a first-place tie for the league lead.
Junior Flemmings came close to equalizing for the away side in the 55th minute with a shot off a rebound that nailed the crossbar.
Cincinnati scored three unanswered goals by Corben Bone (32nd minute), Harrison Delbridge (67th minute) and Kenney Walker (72nd minute) for a 4-1 Cincinnati lead.
Valot pulled a goal back for NYRB II in the 80th minute, his fifth of the season, to complete his brace.
Defender Gideon Baah, who was loaned by the Red Bulls to NYRB II after recovering from a broken tibia injury he suffered in 2016, returned to the pitch. He is not eligible for the MLS team the rest of 2017 due to being on the season-ending injury list.
New York has an off-week and will return to the pitch as its closes out its home schedule at MSU Soccer Park against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Sept. 30.
