Now, here’s some encouraging new for New York City FC:

After missing two games last week, striker David Villa is vying to get back into the lineup for NYCFC’s game at the Colorado Rapids at Dick’s Sporting Good Park in Commerce City, Colo. Saturday night, the team announced Friday.

The City captain was sidelined with an adductor strain he suffered while on World Cup qualifying duty with Spain.

NYCFC certainly could use Villa, the reigning Major League Soccer MVP who leads the league in goal-scoring (19). The team went 1-0-1 without the Spanish international in the lineup last week, scoring but once in two home games.

Defensive midfielder Alex Ring, who is returning from a toe injury incurred while playing for Finland during WCQ, was listed as questionable.

Costa Rican international Ronald Mataritta, sidelined by a fractured right fifth metatarsal he suffered in June, worked with a ball in training this week, although he is not ready to return to the lineup.

Defenders Maxime Chanot and Ethan White and midfielders Yangel Herrera and Mikey Lopez are still injured and will not play in the match.
