STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Senior Kristin Desmond scored the lone goal to lead the Hofstra University women to their third consecutive shutout, a 1-0 triumph over Stony Brook University at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium Thursday night

The Pride (4-3-2), which has beaten Stony Brook (2-6) in eight successive matches, is 10-3 against the Seawolves.

Desmond snapped a scoreless draw in the 53rd minute, firing a shot into the upper left corner for her team-leading fourth goal this season. Freshman Sabrina Bryan earned her second assist of the season.

Hofstra had several other looks on goal, including a shot that just skirted wide early in the first half from junior Jenn Buoncore and hard strike from freshman Lucy Shepherd with about nine minutes left in the first frame.

Senior goalkeeper Jenna Borresen played the first half, extending her shutout streak to 245 minutes.

The Pride opens Colonial Athletic Conference play, heading to the University Delaware Thursday for a 7 p.m. game.
