HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Hofstra University men will kick off their Colonial Athletic Association schedule, hosting Elon College at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Pride (1-3-2) will be looking to get back in the win column after dropping a 1-0 match at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn. Tuesday after back-to-back draws last week.
Reigning CAA Rookie of the Year Luke Brown tallied his first goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Stony Brook University Saturday, with seniors Jon Fraser and Danny Elliott picking up the assists. Fraser got on the scoresheet in his first game of the season after returning from injury. He leads the team with three points.
The Phoenix (3-0-2) is coming off a 1-1 draw with Charlotte Tuesday, a team receiving votes in this week’s United Soccer Coaches Poll. Elon has wins over UCF, Presbyterian and High Point, and has allowed just one goal on the season, outscoring its opponents, 7-1.
Jaiden Fortune and preseason All-CAA selection Elijah Agu share the team lead with two goals and two assists apiece. Goalkeeper Matthew Jeiger went four successive games without allowing a goal, before finally surrendering one to Charlotte Tuesday.
The Pride and the Phoenix have met three times, in each season since Elon has joined the CAA. Hofstra has won all three games, taking last year’s encounter, 3-1, in North Carolina, with goals from Joseph Holland, Brown and Meshack Eshun Addy.
Hofstra steps back out of conference play, welcoming local Ivy League foe Columbia University to Hofstra Soccer Stadium Tuesday at 7 p.m.
