HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Hofstra University women dropped a 3-2 decision to Yale University in extratime overtime at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Monday night.
Lydia Shaw struck for the game-winner with 3:12 remaining in the second extra period for the Bulldogs (5-0).
Hofstra (2-3-1) controlled the game in the first half as senior Kristin Desmond got the Pride on the board in the 21st minute with a 20-yard rocket on the right side for her third goal of the season.
Yale tallied twice in under three minutes to take a 2-1 lead: Ciara Ostrander put away Michelle Alozie’s rebound in the 62nd minute before Alozie tapped a free kick to Noelle Higginson, who blasted a shot in the 64th minute.
The Pride responded quickly, as Desmond played a ball through to beat the goalkeeper and junior Jenn Buoncore chipped it past a defender and into the open net to even the score at 2-2 only 2:03 after Yale had taken the lead.
Both teams had opportunities to put the game away in extratime before Shaw struck in the extra frame.
The Pride is back home with two games this weekend, beginning with a match against Fordham University at Hofstra Soccer Stadium Friday at 7 p.m.
