CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 12 University of Virginia scored twice in each half to record a 4-0 victory over the Hofstra Pride at Klockner Stadium Thursday night.
Hofstra, which dropped its second consecutive match, fell to 1-2 while Virginia improved to 2-0.
The Cavaliers opened the scoring at 9:48 on Pablo Aguilar’s first goal of the season off a free kick.
Less than four minutes before halftime, Edward Opoku tallied on a cross from Julian Cummings to double the lead to 2-0.
Daniel Barir and Cummings added goals in the first nine minutes of the second half to wrap up the scoring.
Goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell made three saves to record the shutout.
Hofstra was outshot, 12-10 with seven of the Pride’s shots coming in the second half.
The Pride will return to action as wraps up its four-game road trip at St. John’s University Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
