PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sky Blue FC has announced that players from the New York Riveters of the National Women’s Hockey League will serve as honorary captains when the team hosts the Boston Breakers at Yurcak Field Saturday

“We are excited to welcome the New York Riveters to Yurcak Field on Saturday, and to have Riveters players as our honorary captains,” Sky Blue FC president and general manager Tony Novo said. “Additionally, we look forward to hosting members of the Rivs Nation Supporters Club, who will be in great hands as they meet up with our own supporters group, Cloud 9. As a team, we want to thank the New York Riveters for their support, and we very much look forward to reciprocating it at Prudential Center during the upcoming National Women’s Hockey League season.”

The Riveters are one of four founding members of the NWHL. After playing the inaugural 2015-16 season in Brooklyn, the Riveters moved to Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. prior to its 2016-17 campaign. The puck will drop on the third season of the NWHL in October, and it will run until March.

“The NY Riveters are exceptionally honored to be able to support another local professional women’s athletic team, Sky Blue FC, in their game vs. Boston,” Riveters captian Ashley “Stretch” Johnston said “It’s great being able to see the momentum that female athletics has with participation and fan support growing across both hockey and soccer.”

Other Riveters players expected to be in attendance include Miye D’Oench, Katie Fitzgerald, Alexa Gruschow and Michelle Picard.
