QUEENS, N.Y. – Coming off a 3-3 draw in their season opener, the St. John’s women welcome Marist University to Belson Stadium for their home opener Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

The match can be seen live on RedStormSports.com with Ralph Bednarczyk and Glenn Crooks on the call.

In its last outing, the Red Storm faced a tough La Salle squad that showed plenty of fight. St. John’s jumped out to a 2-0 lead after goals from Allie Moar and Christina Bellero before the Explorers converted on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute.

Shortly after that goal, the teams were forced to wait out a three-hour, 47-minute weather delay. When play resumed, La Salle tied it at two in the 52nd minute before Zsani Kajan scored in the 72nd minute to give the Red Storm a 3-2 edge. In the final 10 minutes, the Explorers found the back of the net to even the score again.

Kajan was named to the Big East weekly honor roll Monday after scoring a goal on a team-high five shots in her collegiate debut. The redshirt freshman played 54 minutes as a reserve after missing the 2016 season with an injury.

The Red Storm remained unbeaten in its last six season openers.

Marist recorded a 3-0 win over Delaware State in its season opener last week. The Red Foxes dominated for much of the match, outshooting Delaware State, 24-4, and earning 12 corners to the Hornets’ six.

Marist returns its 2016 leading scorer in Camille Bowen, a 2017 preseason All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selection. The Red Foxes were picked to finish fifth in the MAAC by the conference’s coaches.

The game will be the second meeting all-time between the two schools. Marist claimed victory in the first encounter in 2005.

The Johnnies will back on the road for the next three games, all of which are in Connecticut. St. John’s travels to Fairfield to take on the Stags Aug. 27 before participating in the Central Connecticut State University Tournament in New Britain. The Red Storm will take on UConn Sept. 1 before squaring off against Harvard Sept. 3.
