Two players quite familiar to American soccer fans have been short-listed on the FIFA women’s player of the year — Sky Blue FC and Australian international forward Sam Kerr and U.S. national team captain Carli Lloyd.

Kerr has scored goals this National Women’s Soccer League season — in quality and quantity. She made her debut with the Matildas as a 15-year-old in 2009.

Most recently, she scored a competition-high five goals for Australia in the Tournament of Champions, which the Australians won.

She is expected to play for Australia at the Asian Cup in Jordan in 2018.

Lloyd’s legacy in soccer is secured. She is the two-time FIFA women’s world player of the year after leading the Americans to the 2015 Women’s World Cup. During a four-month stint with Manchester City earlier this season, she helped the English side to the 2016/17 UEFA Women’s Champions League semifinals and lifted the FA Women’s Cup for the first time.

Voting for the player of the year begins Monday and runs through Sept. 7.
