PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Hofstra University women fell to the University of Pittsburgh, 1-0, on a goal in the 88th minute in their season opener at Ambrose Urbanic Field Friday night.
Hofstra (0-1) outshot the Panthers, 11-5, dominating possession for much of the game. Pittsburgh (1-0) capitalized on a scramble inside the six-yard box as Juelle Love put away a rebound.
In her collegiate debut, freshman Sabrina Bryan had nearly put the Pride on the board only moments before, ripping a shot off the inside of the post.
Hofstra had another close opportunity midway through the first half with Pitt goalkeeper Katelyn McEachern struggling to smother the ball. McEachern made six saves.
Bryan, Bella Richards, Jordan Littleboy and Monique Iannella all made their Hofstra debuts.
The Pride travels to Penn State for a 1 p.m. Sunday encounter.
