QUEENS, N.Y. – With the start of the regular season just over a week away, two St. John’s women’s soccer players found themselves honored by the Big East as seniors Shea Connors and Allie Moar were named to the preseason All-Big East team as voted by the conference’s coaches.

Connors, who earned a nod on the 2016 Big East women’s all-tournament team, led the team with 13 points last season, seeing action in all 20 games with 19 starts. Connors matched the team high with four goals and paced the squad with five assists, using her speed along the outside of the pitch to set up teammates or find the back of the net herself. A native of New Haven, Conn., Connors scored the Johnnies’ goal in the Red Storm’s BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship semifinal match against Marquette.

Moar landed on the team after finding a spot on the conference second team as a junior last season and the Big East all-rookie team in 2014. Moar started all 20 games for the Red Storm last season and was a mainstay as a two-way midfielder for head coach Ian Stone. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native logged 90 or more minutes in 15 games a year ago and fired 24 shots on the season. Of her 24 shots, 10 found the target, good enough for a 41.7 shot on goal percentage.

The league also announced the conference’s annual preseason coaches’ poll. The Red Storm, who went 5-2-2 last season in league action, was picked to finish fourth. For the second consecutive year, Georgetown unanimously was selected to finish atop the Big East, while DePaul was predicted to come in second. Marquette was picked to finish third, while Providence, Butler, Villanova, Creighton, Xavier and Seton Hall rounded out the poll.
