TINTON FALLS, N.J. – Sky Blue FC forward Sam Kerr scored a league-high six goals in four appearances during July, leading her to National Women’s Soccer League team of the month honors for the third consecutive month.

“We are delighted with the progress that Sam displayed throughout the month of July,” Sky Blue FC head coach Christy Holly said. “Her willingness to continually improve shows her world-class mentality, and we have no doubt that there is even more to come from her between now and the end of the season.”

Kerr was on a tear, scoring some memorable goals in critical situations.

The Australia international started the month by registering a late game-winner against the North Carolina Courage, finishing a Maya Hayes assist in the 84th minute.

She followed up that performance, leading Sky Blue FC on an improbable comeback win over FC Kansas City. Trailing 2-0 when that match headed into the 78th minute, Kerr scored a remarkable 12-minute hat-trick that made the New Jersey club the first NWSL club to earn a win after facing a two-goal deficit.

Continuing that form into her next game, Kerr scored a 90th-minute equalizer against the Chicago Red Stars, securing a hard-fought point at Yurcak Field.

She completed NWSL play in July by scoring in her fifth consecutive match, finishing a Daphne Corboz assist in the 76th minute that leveled a game against Seattle Reign FC at 4-4 after Sky Blue FC had trailed 4-0 in the second half.

During July, Kerr extended the team franchise record for most career goals scored (22), as well as topping the club’s previous high for most goals scored during a season (11). She also became the all-time leading NWSL goal-scorer, sitting on 37 goals.

Five players assisted on the six Kerr goals during the month, with two being game-winners and another serving as a late equalizer. Kerr proved that her stellar play extended from club to country as well, netting a first-half hat trick for Australia in a 4-2 triumph over Japan in the Tournament of Nations Sunday.

Following an international break last weekend, Sky Blue FC hosts the Washington Spirit at Yurcak Field at 7 p.m. Friday.

The NWSL team of the month is selected each month of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.
