Long Island Rough Riders head coach Adam Whitehead has been named the United Women’s Soccer East Conference coach of the year.
Whitehead directed the Rough Riders (8-3-1) to a second-place finish during the regular season as Long Island snapped New Jersey Copa FC’s home unbeaten streak in the conference final in a 5-1 victory that boosted the side to the UWS final four.
He was named Rough Riders coach earlier this year, four years after completing his Binghamton University playing career.
The Rough Riders dropped an extratime shootout to the Grand Rapids FC Women in the national semifinals earlier this month. The teams played to a 2-2 draw before Grand Rapids won in the tie-breaker, 3-2.
