ERIE, Pa. — A draw felt much more like a victory for the Erie Commodores FC Sunday night as the Rochester Lancers found themselves on the outside looking in at the National Premier Soccer League playoffs.
The Commodores recorded a 1-1 tie with Syracuse FC to clinch the final playoff berth in the East Conference Division of the Midwest Conference of the National Premier Soccer League at Gannon’s McConnell Family Stadium.
Erie, which needed a draw or win to clinch, finished at 6-3-3 and 21 points and in second place behind the Dayton Dynamo, one more than third-place Rochester (6-4-2, 20).
On Saturday, the Lancers registered a 3-1 home win over Erie in their regular-season finale of their inaugural year in the league at Charles Schiano Field at Aquinas Institute.
On Sunday, Syracuse FC (2-7-3, 9) grabbed a 16th-minute lead on Jacob Kohlbrenner’s goal before Ezana Kahsay equalized for the hosts off Austin Sullivan’s assist in the 32nd minute.
