In a championship game between two teams from Queens, the New York Kosmos 2001 shut out LS Select Scorpions, 2-0, in the Eastern New York Premier League Boys U-16 final at Stringham Park in LaGrange, N.Y. last month.

The Kosmos play in the Big Apple Youth Soccer League, the Scorpions in the Metrokids Interregional Soccer League.

Vasilis Mastroras and Matthew Vetal scored Kosmos’ goals while goalkeeper Peter Slifkin recorded the shutout.

“We controlled the play and had quality finishing,” Kosmos coach Kostas Troullouris said. “Our central defenders, Vasilis Mastoras and Mateo Betancur, were immense today.”

The ENYPL is America’s oldest continuous premier league, having kicked off play in 2001.
