CLEVELAND — The Rochester Lancers were put on the brink of elimination from contention for the National Premier Soccer League playoffs as they dropped a 2-0 decision to AFC Cleveland Friday night.

Tom Beck tallied for the hosts on either side of halftime — in the 35th and 56th minutes — as Cleveland (6-3-1, 19 points) moved into second place.

Rochester (5-4-2, 17), which dropped to fourth place in the Eaast Conference Division of the Midwest Conference, needs help from the Erie Commodores, Dayton Dynamo and Cleveland to secure the second of two playoff berths.

The Lancers play their final match of the regular season against the Erie Commodores (5-2-2, 17) at Charles Schiano Field at Aquinas Institute Saturday, July 15 at 4 p.m. Rochester needs to win that game to have any chance of reaching the postseason.

The Commodores have two games in hand over the Lancers and need to win one of their final three games to clinch a playoff spot.
