PISCATAWAY, N.J. – As part of its month-long Pride celebration Sky Blue FC will host the Orlando Pride in a National Women’s Soccer League game at Yurcak Field at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
“We look forward to getting back on the field tomorrow,” Sky Blue FC head coach Christy Holly said. “After a quick turnaround, we are fully aware of how important this game is. We know that the second half in Chicago over the weekend was not a real representation of how we are capable of playing, and we plan on fixing that.”
On Sunday, Sky Blue FC (5-5-1, 16 points)got out to another early lead when Madison Tiernan finished a Taylor Lytle corner kick in the third minute, scoring her first professional goal. Chicago rallied with two second-half goals from Vanessa DiBernardo and Sofia Huerta to claim a 2-1 result.
Over the weekend, Orlando (3-4-3, 10) saw a two-game winning streak snapped by the Houston Dash as Carli Lloyd and Rachel Daly registered goals in a 2-0 victory in the NWSL on Lifetime Game of the Week Saturday.
Heading into the game, Sky Blue FC is unbeaten in three meetings with the Pride, going 2-0-1 overall and 1-0-1 at Yurcak Field. This match-up marks the second of this season between the two clubs, with the first one resulting in a Sam Kerr to Maya Hayes game-winner in the 82nd minute that gave Sky Blue FC a 2-1 win.
