New York City FC is limping into Saturday’s home game against the reigning MLS Cup champion Seattle Sounders.
Midfielder Maxi Moralez and defender Ronald Matarrita were listed as out Friday for the Major League Soccer game at Yankee Stadium.
Moralez, a Designated Player and the team’s playmaker, sustained a calf injury in City’s 1-0 Lamar Hunt/U.S. Open Cup loss to the Red Bulls Wednesday night.
Matarrita, a Costa Rican international, injured his ankle in training at SUNY-Purchase in Purchase, N.Y. Thursday.
Midfielder Yangel Herrera, back from the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Korea, reportedly is unlikely to play.
Center back Maxime Chanot, who suffered a hamstring injury in Luxembourg’s 5-0 World Cup qualifying defeat at the Netherlands last Friday, was listed as questionable.
Midfielder-forward Khiry Shelton still has not recovered from his hamstring injury.
