The Cosmos announced Thursday the re-signing of midfielder Javi Márquez.

Marquez, who joined the team for the North American Soccer League spring season, re-upped for the fall season.

“We are glad to re-sign Javi, as he has become an important player for our team,” Cosmos head coach and sporting director Giovanni Savarese said in a statement. “Javi has adapted well to our system and has shown to be one of the most consistent players in the league.”

Márquez, who joined the club Feb. 24, started nine out of 10 games this season. He has tallied two goals and an assist. He leads the team in shots with 23 and is second in the league in this category. The Spaniard’s efforts have been rewarded with three NASL team of the week honors and one man of the match award.

Márquez captained La Liga’s Granada FC, where he played 56 matches. He also performed for Mallorca and Elche while in La Liga. Je was a product of La Liga’s RCD Espanyol youth system and represented the Catalonian National Team twice.

“I would like to thank Rocco Commisso, Giovanni Savarese and the coaching staff for their trust and support throughout the season,” Márquez said in a press release. “I feel happy to extend my contract with the Cosmos and feel excited to continue building a successful team along my teammates.”

Márquez and the Cosmos will return to MCU Park in Brooklyn as they host Puerto Rico FC Friday at 7:30 p.m.
