BRONX, N.Y. – New York Surf Soccer Club recorded a 5-0 win over the New York Magic in a United Women’s Soccer game at Reinhart Field Saturday.

Forward Furtuna Velaj scored twice while goalkeeper Colleen Hickey recorded the shutout.

Forward Erica Murphy opened the scoring on an unassisted tally in the fourth minute, touching the ball around a defender before firing a rising shot past goalkeeper Sierra Bonham. Murphy has scored in three consecutive matches.

Murphy got on the other side of the stat sheet in the 31st minute, hitting a through-ball into the penalty area to forward Megan O’Connor, who struck it into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.

NY Surf extended its lead to 3-0 in the 63rd minute. Defender Totianya Guadalupe chipped a ball towards the far post, which was deflected to the feet of midfielder Maegen Doyle, who scored her second goal this season.

Velaj, who raised her season total to four goals, connected for the two final goals. Her first goal came in the 66th minute, as midfielder Talani Barnett delivered a well-timed feed that played Velaj into a 1 v 1 situation with Bonham. Before allowing the Magic netminder any time to collapse on her, the Albania international quickly pinged a ball past Bonham that placed a 4-0 count onto the scoreboard.

In the 87th minute, Velaj struck once again for NY Surf. On the play, she found herself in the perfect position to collect a rebound in the final third, calmly slotting a ball under Bonham that found the back of the net.
