LAGRANGE, N.Y. — Massapequa Fury 03 of the Long Island Junior Soccer League captured the Girls Under-14 State Open Cup by shutting out another LIJSL side, the Smithtown Cobras, 3-0, at Stringham Park Saturday, June 3.

Paris Burke scored two goals, Brooke Davi added one. Goalkeeper Caroline Brucatto had the shutout.

“Tactically, we stuck to our game plan to spread them out and possess the ball,” Massapequa coach Paul Yarde said.

Massapequa will represent the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association at the Region I championship in Spotsylvania, Va. from June 30-July 4.

Smithtown received the Rocco Amoroso Sportsmanship Award as determined by the game officials. Amoroso, a U.S. Soccer Life Member who died last year, started the LIJSL Sportsmanship Program in 1980 and it spread to Eastern New York, nationally and then to China and Ireland.
