NEW YORK – New York Surf Soccer Club finished up a busy weekend in United Women’s Soccer play Sunday, falling for the first time this season to the Lancaster Inferno at Millersville University in Pennsylvania, 2-1.

The match came just one day after the Surf (2-1-1, 7 points) handed the New England Mutiny (3-1-0, 9 points) its only loss this year, 4-2.

Lancaster (2-2-0, 6) opened the scoring just before halftime as Emilie Kupsov connected with Tesa McKibben in the 42nd minute. That 1-0 score held over the final minutes before intermission, and the Inferno headed into the locker room with a one-goal edge.

The Lancaster lead was stretched to 2-0 in the 50th minute after the hosts were awarded a penalty kick as Kupsov converted.

The Surf earned a gritty goal in the 70th minute. Midfielder Flo Gamby fired off a shot that goalkeeper Jordan Kamp saved. The deflection landed at the feet of a well-positioned Erica Murphy, who put away the rebound to make it 2-1.

The Surf returns home to SUNY Maritime College, hosting the New York Magic at 2 p.m. Saturday. SUNY Maritime College is located at 6 Pennyfield Ave. in the Bronx.
