David Villa, who tallied twice in New York City FC’s 3-0 win at Orlando City SC Sunday night, was named the FrontRowSoccer.com player of the week Monday.

The Spanish international striker and reigning Major League Soccer MVP was honored for the second time this season.

Players were considered from the week ending on Sunday, May 21.

Villa converted a penalty kick in the 14th minute after Brazilian star Kaka was ruled to have handled Rodney Wallace’s cross in the box, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.

After Wallace finished off a goal in the 35th minute, Villa finished off Orlando City with his eighth goal of the season and 49th of his three-year NYCFC career in the 82nd minute. He took a feed from Maxi Moralez and rounded goalkeeper Joe Bendik for the final score.

“We’re very happy with the match we played,” Villa said. “We were better from the opening whistle to the final. We had more chances, more possession and we controlled the game. The team was very good. Very compact, very together.”
