BUFFALO, N.Y. – New York Surf Soccer Club will be seeking a second consecutive win to open the 2017 United Women’s Soccer season Saturday.

The club will play the first road fixture of its inaugural UWS campaign against the Western New York Flash (0-1-1, 1 point) at All High Stadium with a 4 p.m. kickoff.

NY Surf (1-0-0, 3) opened the season last weekend when it defeated the Flash at SUNY Maritime College on Sunday, 1-0. Forward Megan O’Connor, who finished off a corner kick from midfielder Brooke Salmon in the 14th minute, scored the lone goal.

Colleen Hickey registered the shutout.

“It was important to get a win at home to start the season so that we are feeling confidently going on the road,” NY Surf head coach Michele Canning said. “Playing the same opponent can be challenging, but our roster is different this week. I think that will give us a new look and make a positive impact on the game.”

Among the players joining the NY Surf roster this weekend include former Rutgers University standout Erica Murphy, who started the National Women’s Soccer League season in camp with Sky Blue FC.

The Flash opened its season with two road matches last weekend, drawing with the Long Island Rough Riders Saturday, 1-1, before falling to NY Surf Sunday.

NY Surf returns home to SUNY Maritime College Saturday, June 3 at 4:30 p.m., to host the New England Mutiny. Maritime College is located at 6 Pennyfield Avenue in the Bronx.
