Three Cosmos players were named to the North American Soccer League team of the week after their 4-3 home victory over Puerto Rico FC Sunday.
Midfielder Emmanuel Ledesma earned his second mention of the season, while defender Ryan Richter and midfielder Walter Restrepo were each named to the team of the week for the first time this season.
Ledesma recorded two assists and created five chances. The Argentine midfielder set up the Cosmos’ first goal with a cross to Andrés Flores, which helped New York get back into the game while battling a two-goal deficit. Minutes later, Ledesma’s excellent corner kick to Juan Guerra leveled the match at 2-2 gave the team the spark it needed just before halftime.
After the break, the Cosmos took the lead through Richter’s 50th minute header from close range. The defender had a passing accuracy of 84 percent and four shots.
Restrepo scored the final goal in the 58th minute, a right-footed shot to the top right corner after an impressive solo run. The midfielder was excellent distributing the ball around the field with a passing accuracy of 90 percent.
The Cosmos’ next NASL match will take place at MCU Park in Coney Island against the San Francisco Delta May 25 at 7 p.m.
