BRONX, N.Y. – New York Surf Soccer Club played its inaugural match in United Women’s Soccer match Sunday, blanking a tough Western New York Flash side at SUNY Maritime College, 1-0.
NY Surf tallied the lone goal in the 14th minute. Midfielder Brooke Salmon placed a corner kick into the penalty area, where forward Megan O’Connor finished with a one-timer that found the back of the net.
The hosts then locked it down defensively to register the clean sheet.
Fordham University goalkeeper Colleen Hickey recorded the shutout.
NY Surf travels to Western New York to meet the Flash for a 5 p.m. kickoff Saturday at Niagara University. The team will return home to host the New England Mutiny June 3 at 4:30 p.m.
SUNY Maritime College is located at 6 Pennyfield Avenue in the Bronx.
