Former Brentwood High School boys soccer coach William “Bill” Lown passed away Wednesday. He was 82.
Lown, a Smithtown, N.Y. resident, was varsity coach in Brentwood for 10 seasons and was the school’s athletic director and Suffolk County soccer chairman from 1990-1999.
Inducted into the New York State Soccer Hall of Fame in 1998, Lown had the honor of the Suffolk County Soccer Coaches Association’s Small School Player of the Year award named after him.
“He was well respected in Brentwood, Suffolk County and the entire New York State soccer communities,” the Suffolk County Soccer Coaches Association said in a statement. “More importantly, Bill was the nicest and dearest friend to anyone who knew him. The SCSCA and all of NYS soccer sends their dearest condolences to Gene, his wife, and the entire Lown family.”
Lown is survived by his wife, Jean, son William D. (Carla) Lown, daughter Elizabeth Pappas and three sisters. He also had two grandchildren.
Visitation is at The Branch Funeral Home (190 E. Main St.) in Smithtown, N.Y. 11787 Sunday from 2-6 p.m.
The funeral service will be at First Presbyterian Church of Smithtown Monday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow with military honors at Calverton National Cemetery.
