Jack Harrison took a giant step or two forward in New York City FC’s 3-2 comeback victory at Columbus Crew SC Saturday night.

Without Designated Players David Villa (illness) and Andrea Pirlo (on the bench), Harrison connected twice, including the game-winner at MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.

For his efforts, the 20-year-old forward was named FrontRowSoccer.com’s player of the week.

He was honored for the week ending Sunday, April 30.

“I think Jack grew up as a player,” NYC FV head coach Patrick Vieira said. “He’s getting better every day, every week because of the way he is training. He’s working hard with [David] Villa every day. Of course that’s a great result, he wants to play every week and he’s working really hard in training. When he has the opportunity, he shows me how good he is.”

Harrison had the first and last words in the Major League Soccer match.

City grabbed an early lead as Harrison, off a feed from DP and midfielder Maxi Moralez, chipped goalkeeper Zack Steffen for a 1-0 advantage in the eighth minute.

“The first goal, we were on the counterattack,” said Harrison, adding that Moralez “had come over to the right-hand side and made a run in behind and played a perfect ball. I just managed to chip it over the keeper.”

Harrison scored in 76th minute off a Columbus defensive error as Yangel Herrera fed him the ball on the right.

“The second one was great team pressure. We pressed very well, Herrera] was able to touch the ball away from the defender and I just managed to get there before someone else was behind me and just slide it in the back of the net.”
