NEW YORK — Former New York City FC midfielder-forward Kwadwo Poku, who scored a goal in Miami FC’s 2-0 win over FC Edmonton, Monday was named the North American Soccer League player of the week.

The Ghanaian international tallied his second goal of the season in the 35th minute at Riccardo Silva Stadium Saturday night, finishing off a give-and-go with Vincenzo Rennella to open the scoring.

Miami FC moved into second place in the NASL spring standings.

Poku, who joined Miami FC from the Major League Soccer side last year, recorded six goals and two assists in his first season in South Florida. The Kumasi, Ghana, native made his professional debut in the NASL in 2014 with the Atlanta Silverbacks.

Second-place Miami FC will make the short flight to San Juan this weekend to face Puerto Rico FC at Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. It will air live on ESPN3 (U.S.) and NASL.com (Canada).
